The Living Wake

cast : Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network / Zombieland / Adventureland / The Squid and the Whale), Mike O’Connell

director : Sol Tryon

Director Sol Tryon’s critically acclaimed debut feature is a timeless fairytale with a biting sense of humor. When self-proclaimed genius K. Roth Binew (Mike O’Connell, Funny People) learns his life will be cut short by a grave but unnamed illness, he decides to go out in style-with a living wake. Accompanied by his faithful assistant Mills (Jesse Eisenberg, Zombieland), K Roth spends his scheduled final day on earth revisiting all the people who touched his life – from the village prostitute, to his estranged mother – in order toinvite them to his grand finale.

Guaranteed to be a cult classic, The Living wake plays out like a combination of Monty Python’s absurdist humor and Wes Anderson’s delicate styling. What unfolds onscreen is a clever, whimsical fable about the nature of death.

MMA Worldwide TV Series (2010)

Mixed martial arts is a young sport where things continue to happen that signify change. But it is the only professional sport where fans can really connect with the fighters, often times having a beer with them after the fights if they happen to be at the same bar. The humbling experience that got many of these fighters to where they are today is the same reason they stop and take pictures, sign autographs and don’t leave fans waiting. Fighters like Chuck Liddell, BJ Penn, Quinton Jackson and Gina Carano are far more than just household names; they are superstars that people follow religiously through guest appearances, movies, TV shows, videogames and mass merchandising. And though the UFC is often-times the only promotion synonymous with MMA in the hearts of new fans, it’s important to recognize the grassroots movement, the regional promoters like Sven Bean, Monte Cox and Terry Trebilcock and the MMA media (on and off the Internet) that has worked so tirelessly to keep fans connected. There are local MMA events to be found in almost every state and the local fighters who make $1,000 could be the world champions making over a million in a few years. The evolution of MMA as a sport was a fight in itself. Now it is up to you to carry on that torch by educating people on why mixed martial arts is the greatest sport of a new generation.

Nicotine Bees (2010)

director : Kevin Hansen

Documentary

Nicotine Bees is a documentary film about the worldwide, simultaneous death of honeybees – and the threats to our food security

In 2005-2006, honeybee colonies worldwide started to collapse. Alarmingly, since then the problem has gotten worse, not better: 40-50% of bees in the U.S. and in some E.U. nations died in the year 2010 alone. Because bees are needed for one-third of our food supply, this is a serious global issue.

What is the explanation for the dieoff of honeybees worldwide, simultaneously? Using good science and experts across the US, Canada, Germany and India, Nicotine Bees explains the simultaneous, worldwide honeybee dieoffs – with the same weird bee behaviors – often referred-to as ‘Colony Collapse Disorder’ or CCD.

Although bees have been threatened for a long time, this was a new and very different problem. French, German and Italian experts clearly linked honeybee dieoffs to a new class of pesticides based on nicotine that made the entire plant toxic – flowers, pollen, leaves, stems and roots. These nicotine-based pesticides are now the most widespread pesticides on earth.

Positively, when the nicotine pesticides were banned, the honeybees rebounded in Italy, France, Germany, and Slovenia.

This documentary film offers explanations that work, solutions for recovery and a path forward for bees and our food security.

The terrorist Commander establishes a base in a tropical Caribbean paradise which points like a dagger at America’s throat. With only days before the the first elements land on U.S. soil, the American government discovers that the terrorist Commander plans on sending a freighter filled with thousands of small arms weapons, cannons and tanks to a U.S. shipping port. Knowing that the port authorities might not find the exact freighter in time to stop it, they must devise a new plan to find the freighter before it leaves the Caribbean.

With no time to loose, the U.S immediately forms an elite strike force to engage the new terrorist regime before it can land on U.S. soil. Their mission: stop it there before we have to stop it here. But the enemy Commander is well aware of American tactics and has his own elite commando team led by an assassin from the world’s last ninja clan. It’s guarded by its own fearless warrior, a black clad ninja, an expert in many forms martial arts- hand to hand, sword, and fire arms. What ensues is a rock and roll fueled chess game of strike and counter-strike, from golden beaches and lush rainforests to densely packed and brightly painted urban slums as the American Strike Force encounter and destroy enemy troops, human traffickers, and eventually end up in an all out battle for their lives in a heavily defended enemy fortress.

Lucky Bastard (2009)

director : Everett Lewis

Gay & Lesbian

From Everett Lewis, the acclaimed writer-director of the art-house hits Luster and The Natural History of Parking Lots, comes an arousing and dark-edged story of a passionate affair set amidst the backroom bars, dark alleys and sordid hotel rooms of modern-day Los Angeles–a city where even if you’re lucky enough to have it all, it doesn’t mean you know exactly what you want.

Rusty (Patrick Tatten, The Soloist) is a successful architect with to-die-for pecs, bulging biceps and a killer smile. When his stodgy boyfriend leaves town, Rusty has a chance encounter with a handsome though seedy drifter, Denny (Dale Dymkoski, TV’s “Law and Order: SVU”). Blinded by Denny’s good looks, vulnerability and hustler charm, Rusty begins an intense, steamy relationship ruled by long-dormant passions. However, as Denny’s control over Rusty strengthens, it soon becomes clear that Rusty–now on a seductive ride of sex and drugs–must decide what it is he truly wants.

Lucky Bastard is an edgy, sensual and salacious exploration of youthful indiscretion, sexual indulgence and the high stakes of attraction–a story that rings true to anyone who’s ever fallen for the wrong guy for all the right reasons.

Hanger feature film available for worldwide distribution on Cinesouq!

Hanger (2009)

Horror

From Ryan Nicholson, the acclaimed writer-director of the cult hit Gutterballs, comes this gruesome horror tale in which revenge is sweet and sick and twisted and definitely served cold–a balls-to-the-wall story of vengeance and murder that rises to new heights of perverse action and macabre behavior.

Eighteen years ago, nine-months-pregnant Rose (B-Movie Hall of Fame acting legend Debbie Rochon), a wrong-side-of-the-tracks prostitute, was killed when her pimp gave her an abortion with a hanger. Now, the deformed, surviving child (Nathan Dashwood, TV’s “Smallville”), who was thrown in the dumpster, left for dead and mockingly called Hanger, is about to settle the score – and any street trash, sex degenerate or murderous pimp better beware.

Reminiscent of low-budget classics from the like of directors Lloyd Kaufman (who appears here as Melvina the Tranny) and Herschell Gordon Lewis, Hanger carves a brutal and tasty slice of blood and guts in which no one is safe, no matter how fast they can run or how loud they can scream.
